Protect Retirement Contributions
with Retirement Protection Plus*
When an employee is out of work, i.e. totally disabled and not gainfully employed, it’s unlikely that employee is keeping up retirement plan contributions. And that can create a huge deficit in anyone’s financial plan.
Retirement Protection Plus* (RPP) is a program that provides disability income insurance to help ensure an employee’s ability to continue saving for retirement until the age of 65. It is not a pension plan1. The goal: to provide employees with close to what they could have expected from their retirement plan if they had not become totally disabled.
Berkshire Life is one of the very few companies to offer disability income protection specifically for retirement plan contributions. We offer a non-cancellable and guaranteed renewable “to age 65” policy that pays a benefit equal to the amount they contribute now—perhaps even the amount their employer contributes—into an irrevocable trust.
The trustee, Guardian Trust Company, FSB, invests the funds, at the insured employee’s direction, until age 65, when the trust assets are distributed to supplement whatever they may receive from their original retirement plan.
